ClinicalTrials.gov Registration and Results Reporting for International Clinical Trials:

ClinicalTrials.gov is a publicly available registry and results database of federally and privately supported clinical trials conducted in the United States and around the world. The purpose of ClinicalTrials.gov is to disclose key information about clinical trials that are currently available or that have been conducted.

Section 801 of the Food and Drug Amendments Act, known as FDAAA 801, requires studies that meet the definition of Applicable Clinical Trial to be registered and have summary results submitted on ClinicalTrials.gov. For more information, see the ClinicalTrials.gov FDAAA 801 Requirements.

The International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) recommends that all medical journal editors require, as a condition of consideration for publication, registration of clinical trials in a public trials registry at or before the time of first patient enrollment.

It is recommended that those responsible for conducting a clinical trial check to make sure they are in compliance with the trial registration requirements of the FDA, ICMJE, and, as needed, other organizations with policies on clinical trial registration.
